Ekka 2025 Movie Review

Ekka, the sophomore film of Yuva, touted as Sandalwood’s rising star, follows his debut in Yuva last year. Director Padaki praises Yuva’s approach, saying, “He came to Ekka with an open mind, unburdened by image-building. Yuva embraced the character’s demands fully. His maturity, thoughtful insights, and innocent outlook were refreshing.”

Yuva, reflecting on his choice of Ekka, shares, “I read many scripts for my second film, but Ekka’s story had a unique spark that drew me in.” His debut Yuva, a campus drama, received mixed reviews, with critics pointing out shortcomings in his acting. Addressing this, Yuva says, “I take criticism positively—it shows people believe in my potential and want me to grow. I don’t dwell on praise or criticism. My focus is to improve as an actor with every project.”

The teaser for Ekka carries the tagline: “In the heart of mayhem, innocence screams the loudest.” Padaki describes the film as a tale of a man striving to preserve his innocence amid chaos. “It explores the struggle of small-town individuals adapting to the fast-paced life of big cities. Their innocence often fades as they fight to survive. That’s the essence of Ekka,” he explains.

In his debut, Yuva portrayed a food delivery worker, capturing the grind of gig work. In Ekka, he plays a cab driver, a role that deepened his empathy for those in demanding jobs. “Cab drivers work over 20 hours a day, often without proper homes or regular meals. I spent time with drivers, learning about their lives and their dreams of achieving something bigger,” Yuva shares.

As a member of the Dr Rajkumar family, Yuva faces expectations from fans of his late uncle, Puneeth Rajkumar, who passed away in 2021 at 45 due to a cardiac arrest. Yuva acknowledges the comparisons but remains grounded. “I can’t fill the void left by my uncle. We may share some resemblance, but my goal is to carve my own path through my work. Puneeth ensured consistent work for the industry by doing multiple films a year. That’s the gap I, and other new actors, must strive to fill for the sake of Sandalwood.”
